CALIFORNIA LICENSED ACUPUNCTURISTS WANTED to help design the next California Licensing Exam (CALE)

Attention Acupuncture Professionals!

The California Acupuncture Board (Board) and the Office of Professional Examination Services (OPES) are recruiting licensed acupuncturists to assist with development of the California Acupuncture Licensing Examination (CALE) and the occupational analysis of the acupuncturist profession in California.

We are looking for acupuncturists to serve as subject matter experts (SMEs) in workshops (that will be held in Sacramento) and in occupational analysis interviews (that will be conducted by telephone). We need SMEs with various levels of experience and from diverse practice settings. Licensees with less than 5 years of experience are especially needed to ensure that the licensure examination maintains an entry-level perspective.

Additionally, all aspects of examination development require participation of licensees who are fluent in Chinese or Korean language.

EXAMINATION DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS

The following workshops and interviews will be held in 2020:

  • August 25-26, 2020
Licensees determine the passing score for new versions of CALE.
Item Review
  • July 22-23, 2020
  • September 24-25, 2020
Licensees work as a group to review examination questions.
Exam Construction
  • Oct 22-23, 2020
Licensees construct new versions of CALE.
Occupational Analysis Interviews
  • Week 1: June 9-12, 2020
  • Week 2: June 23-26, 2020
  • Week 3: June 30 – July 2, 2020

Available interview times on each of the above listed dates are:

  • 9:00 am–10:00 am
  • 10:30 am–11:30 am
  • 1:00 pm–2:00 pm
  • 2:30 pm–3:30 pm
  • 4:00 pm–5:00 pm

This is a 30-minute to 1-hour telephone interview times.

Test development specialist will ask questions regarding typical activities that are performed by acupuncturists in their regular job in order to develop a description of the acupuncturist practice in California.

Occupational Analysis
  • October 15-16, 2020
  • November 12-13, 2020
Licensees develop a description of acupuncturist practice in California.

All workshops are held in Sacramento from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. SMEs who participate in any of the workshops must be able to attend for the entire time the workshop is scheduled. PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS

To participate you must:

  • Be currently licensed and practicing in California
  • Be in good standing with the Board
  • Have no prior disciplinary actions
  • Read, write and speak English
  • Not be an instructor. Due to potential conflict of interest, undue influence, security considerations instructors shall not serve as SMEs for, nor participate in, any aspect of licensure examination development or administration, pursuant to DCA Policy OPES 18-01.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

You are reimbursed $150 per day and will earn up to 8 hours of Continuing Education credit for the 2-day workshop. Airline flights and hotel cost is prepaid by the board and arranged by OPES. After the workshop you will be reimbursed for meals and mileage.

Final selection of SMEs for workshops will be based on many factors. It is important to ensure representation of the profession in terms of experience, language, practice setting, geographical location, and years licensed.

SME NOTIFICATION

If you are selected during this examination cycle, you will receive an email notification.

The email notification will confirm which workshops you have been selected to participate in or selected to be an alternate for.

SMEs not selected during this cycle will not receive notification.
