WHY:

As of 1994, an estimated 14.6 million Americans had asthma, a 33% increase from 1990. Total medical costs for asthma treatment are placed at $5.8 billion annually
While acupuncture is often associated with pain control, in the hands of a well-trained practitioner it has much broader applications. Acupuncture can be effective as the only treatment used, or as the adjunct to other medical treatment forms in many medical disorders. The World Health Organization and the National Institute of Health both recognize the use of acupuncture in the treatment of respiratory disorders including asthma. Acupuncture is free of the side effects associated with asthma medications, and often results in fewer attacks.
