Pacific College of Health and Science is hiring for the position of full-time Library Assistant at our San Diego campus. The position requires 5 days per week onsite at the San Diego campus.
General Job Summary: Â
The Library Assistant helps librarians and library technicians organize library resources and make them available to users. The Library Assistant also manages the library circulation and reference desk by lending and collecting books, periodicals, videotapes, and other materials. This position serves students, faculty, and community members and reports to the Institutional Director of Library Services.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Greets and assists library users, answers phone calls, and performs a wide range of clerical duties.
- Manages the library circulation and reference desk.
- Creates a monthly selection of books to create awareness about different topics.
- Utilizes the automated library circulation system to circulate materials to library users including checking materials in an out and processing book holds.
- Provides library patrons with general information about library services and resources directing them to other assistance as needed.
- Sorts books, publications and other items according to classification code and returns them to shelves, files, and other designated storage areas.
- Assists with the yearly library inventory with other staff members.
- Maintains records for interlibrary loan requests.
- Maintains good relationships with library users (students, faculty, and members of the community).
- Upholds the library circulation policies.
- Inspects returned books for damage and verifies due date. Acts about contact person inquiring about overdue notices
- Participates in meetings, as required.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Communicates IT technical issues for equipment located in the library (computers, printers, paper)
- Maintains composure while handling complaints.
- Manages confidential records in a discreate and professional manner.
- Meet deadlines with strong attention to detail.
Minimum/Required Qualifications:
Education, Experience, and Job Skills:
- GED & 3 years of administrative experience.
- Experience as a Library Assistant a plus.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook)
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment while serving library users
- Enthusiastic with a positive attitude
- Ability to plan and adapt to change
- Strong work ethic
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential functions of the job in a typical office/workstation situation. Able to work sitting or standing at a desk and operate a computer using keyboard and reading information on a monitor.

Salary Range: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour; 40 hours a week
