Tammera J. Karr, PhD, BHCN, CGP, CNW, is an author, educator, food historian, and researcher with more than 20 years of clinical experience. Passionate about nutrition as the key to stopping many modern illnesses, Tammera is the author of Our Journey with food, Our Journey with Food Cookery Book, and Empty Plate: Food, Sustainability, Mindfulness. Believing “traditional foods” is all about community, Tammera created the “Our Journey with Food” online education in 2020. This course, while initially created for nurses eager to use food as medicine, is suitable for anyone interested in using food for health. Tammera teaches Nutrition II: Supplemental approaches and peak performance in Pacific College’s Master’s of Health and Human Performance program.

Tammera has served on the boards of the National Association of Nutrition Professionals (NANP), Oregon Holistic Nurses Association (ONHA), and the American Naturopathic Certification Board (ANCB). A native of Oregon, Tammera enjoys the challenge of nutrition research, food history, traditional food preservation: canning, drying and fermenting, and traditional whole food cooking.
