Lena is a part-time faculty member at the ArborVitae School of Traditional Herbalism in Brooklyn where she teaches courses on herbal therapeutics for the musculoskeletal system and female reproductive health. Lena is currently serving as President of the Board of Directors for the Childbirth Education Association of Metropolitan NY (CEA/MNY) and she teaches classes on optimal perinatal nutrition in CEA/MNY’s Teacher Certification Program. The synthesis of Lena’s therapeutic bodywork with herbal medicine, and her integrative whole-person approach to inflammatory musculoskeletal conditions, is illustrated in her case study that was published in the Spring 2018 edition of the Journal of the American Herbalists Guild, titled, The Link between Gut and Autoimmunity: Treatment of Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Colitis with a “Weeding and Feeding” Approach. Lena has also presented case studies, given lectures and workshops, and taught continuing education courses for health and wellness professionals in a variety of settings on topics ranging from circadian rhythm disruption in night shift workers to uterine contractility patterns in reproductive disorders.

Lena is passionate about helping individuals and families take charge of their health while reducing their reliance on costly, invasive – and often unnecessary – medical interventions by incorporating practices that are rooted in traditional wisdom and supported by modern evidence. She loves educating expectant families, lay people, and health and wellness professionals alike. She lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn with her husband, a sociologist at Hunter College and the CUNY Graduate Center, and their daughter, Juniper.
