UPDATE: As of 8/29/2017, the online postbaccalaureate Holistic Nursing Certificate is also endorsed by AHNCC.

Pacific College of Oriental Medicine is excited to announce the American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Corporation (AHNCC)’s endorsement of the PCOM-NY’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN) Completion Program. AHNCC endorsement makes graduates of PCOM’s RN to BSN Completion Program eligible for certification in holistic nursing after passing the NCLEX and obtaining their RN license.

AHNCC designed a School Endorsement Program in 2000 to facilitate the advancement of holistic nursing through nursingeducation, endorsing only academic programs with curricula grounded in holistic nursing philosophy, theory, and concepts consistent with the AHNA Scope and Standards of Holistic Nursing Practice. AHNCC supports curriculum development that advances holistic, integrative nursing practices consistent with both current and future healthcare trends. Endorsement of this program identifies PCOM as an institution producing nurses that will participate as transformational leaders capable of helping to shift the focus of healthcare paradigm from illness and disease to health promotion, wellness, and wellbeing.

The Growing Importance of Holistic Nursing in Healthcare

Dr. Sandra Maldonado, EdD, CNN, director of the nursing program at PCOM, commented that “I am excited about bringing this program to Pacific College, providing an avenue to increase holistic nursing, and extending the value to patients seeking well-rounded healthcare”. Nurses trained in holistic practices and principles are ready to meet the growing demand for health care as they integrate healing principles of both Eastern and Western practices. Holistic nurses today are emerging as leaders in integrative healthcare roles within the areas of primary care, geriatrics, pediatrics, oncology, and palliative care. Holistic nursingprovides cost-effective care, and access to holistic nurses gives patients the ability to learn about and take advantage of complementary therapies that benefit overall health, limit disease, and reduce healthcare costs.

Pacific College of Oriental Medicine is one of the leading schools in the nation for acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and massage, where students earn from a certificate up to a doctoral degree. PCOM’s master’s and doctoral degree programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM).
