Pacific College of Health and Science is seeking an Undergraduate Science Laboratory Instructor (Anatomy & Physiology I/II, Microbiology) to teach our bachelor’s in nursing students. The successful candidate will possess a holistic, integrative vision and the communication and leadership skills to create educational experiences that support student growth, self-care, and nurturing. This is an in-person role teaching one or more courses on the New York campus. You will be a member of a hybrid department but will teach onsite.
General Job Summary: The Undergraduate Science Laboratory Instructor delivers in-person laboratory instruction for Anatomy & Physiology I and II and a 300-level Microbiology course to undergraduate students. The instructor will facilitate hands-on learning, ensure laboratory safety, and support student success through effective teaching, preparation, and mentorship.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Provide laboratory instruction for undergraduate courses in Anatomy & Physiology I, Anatomy & Physiology II, and Microbiology, following established curricula and departmental guidelines.
- Work with the Science Lab Manager to prepare and organize laboratory materials, equipment, and specimens for each session, ensuring all resources are ready for student use.
- Demonstrate laboratory techniques, proper use of equipment, and safety protocols, including aseptic and biohazard procedures relevant to microbiology and anatomy labs.
- Supervise students during laboratory sessions, offering guidance, troubleshooting experiments, and ensuring adherence to safety standards.
- Assess student performance through evaluation of lab reports, quizzes, practical exams, and in-lab participation, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Offer pre-approved and on-site make-up sessions as required by Departmental policy.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and laboratory incidents as required by the department.
- Use an LMS delivery system as needed for document storage and grading updates. Training will be provided.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to coordinate lab schedules, share best practices, and participate in curriculum development as needed.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of laboratory spaces, including proper storage and disposal of materials, and routine equipment maintenance.
- Stay current with advances in laboratory pedagogy, safety regulations, and relevant scientific fields through ongoing professional development.
- As required, participate in course and program assessment, curriculum development, and departmental meetings.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of adult learners and diverse student populations, fostering an inclusive and respectful online classroom environment.
- Adhere to all college policies, procedures, and guidelines, including confidentiality, accessibility, and academic integrity.
- Be punctual and reliable, arriving 30 minutes prior to lab sessions for setup and preparation.
- Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, with the willingness to teach labs at various times to accommodate course offerings and student needs. Schedules will include Wednesday through Friday mornings, midday, evenings, and potentially Saturday mornings.
Education and Experience:
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree or higher in Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Biomedical Science, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate laboratory courses in anatomy, physiology, and microbiology.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques, specimen preparation, and operation of standard laboratory equipment.
- Strong commitment to laboratory safety and regulatory compliance, including knowledge of chemical hygiene and biosafety protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
