Pacific College of Health and Science is hiring for the Federal Work Study (FWS) position of Library Assistant at our New York campus.
General Job Summary:
The FWS Library Assistant helps librarians organize library resources and make them available to users. The Library Assistant also manages the library circulation and reference desk by lending and collecting books, periodicals, and other materials. This position serves students, faculty, and community members and reports to the Director of Library Services.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist library users, answers phone calls, and performs a wide range of clerical duties.
- Help at the library circulation and reference desk with requests for books or refer questions to the librarian.
- Utilize the automated library circulation system to circulate materials to library users including checking materials in an out and processing book holds.
- Sort books, publications and other items according to classification code and return them to shelves, files, and other designated storage areas.
- Assist with the yearly library inventory.
- Provide photocopies to fill in article requests for interlibrary loans.
- Inspects returned books for damage, due date and overdue notices while upholding the library circulation policies.
Minimum/Required Qualifications:
- Excellent customer service and computer skills.
- Meet deadlines for special projects and attention to detail.
- Maintain SAP and enrollment requirements.
- Maintain good behavioral standards and code of conduct
- Report to work as scheduled, accurately record hours worked, and submit timesheets by established deadlines.
- Follow institutional policies and procedures.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
- Notify supervisors of schedule changes.
- Prioritize academic responsibilities.
- Maintain records confidentiality
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential functions of the job in a typical office/workstation situation. Able to work sitting or standing at a desk and operating a computer using a keyboard and reading information on a monitor.
Rate of Pay: $17.00 per hour
