Shoemaker, Sherry, PhD, RN, LAc

Sherry Shoemaker earned a PhD from the University of San Diego, a Masters of Traditional Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine San Diego, and a Masters in Executive Nurse Leadership, University of San Diego. Dr. Shoemaker’s dissertation, Onsite Integrative Medicine Clinics: Acupuncture, Positive Patient Outcomes, and Frequency of Provider Visits, describes integrative medicine and collaboration within the biomedicine system as it is known today. The research aim was to describe the patient outcomes of receiving acupuncture in relation to patients’ symptoms and frequency of patient visits to biomedicine providers before and after acupuncture treatments. As a California State Licensed Acupuncturist, Dr. Shoemaker had a general acupuncture practice for 10 years in the San Diego area. Currently Dr. Shoemaker is a system level Senior Specialist for Sharp Health Care. She supports a system-wide software program for patient classification and acuity. The position includes data analysis and multiple report analyses for each of the six acute care facilities in the health care system. She also supports the clinical infection preventionist group system-wide as a Six Sigma Green Belt facilitator. Dr. Shoemaker is a member of the Association of California Nurse Leaders Research Committee, a Society of Acupuncture Research member and Sigma Theta Tau community member.
