Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Course of Study Track 1: Family Medicine (2 credits each)
Mental Health (Semester 1) In the first year of the Family Medicine series doctoral fellows receive advanced instruction in the concentrations of Mental Health, Geriatrics, and Orthopedics. Each concentration course focuses on the realistic and relevant integration of biomedical diagnosis and treatment with differentiation and treatment from the traditional Oriental medical perspective. Utmost respect for the essence of Chinese Medicine is preserved. More than that, these courses are integrated with the Application of Chinese Classics courses. So, while the doctoral fellow is studying biomedical and modern TCM approaches to disease, he or she is challenged to consider the ways in which the Classic texts are still relevant today. In the second year of the Family Medicine track, doctoral fellows continue to work on the specialty of Family Medicine in the concentration areas of Neurology, Women's Health, Preventive Medicine and Pediatrics, areas in which Pacific has significant faculty expertise and onsite, as well as community, clinical resources. Throughout the entire program, Doctoral fellows will remain in one group.
