Acupuncture Hits New York Radio Airwaves

Pacific College of Oriental Medicine graduate Janet Bardini gave a radio interview on CD101.9’s "Dialogue" morning show about her career in acupuncture on Oct. 12.

In addition to speaking about her own private practice, Bardini also talked about how acupuncture works, what conditions it can help and how insurance companies are integrating it.

For Bardini, who used to be a radio personality in New York and Manhattan before making the switch to acupuncture, the radio interview was exciting because it gave her the chance to promote her new profession.

" I just like being the unofficial spokesperson for acupuncture," Bardini said.

Before starting three part-time acupuncture clinics, Bardini had hosted radio programs on Q104.3, Z100, Shadow Traffic, WDHA, Westchester’s 107.1 and Sirius Satellite Radio.

However, after enduring the long hours her radio career required, Bardini became ill with chronic fatigue syndrome. After taking a course Chinese herbs, acupuncture and homeopathy, she not only felt better, but she was also inspired to learn more about her treatment. After doing her own research, Bardini decided to become an acupuncturist, and graduated from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York in 2001.

"It’s my calling," Bardini said of acupuncture. "It found me, I didn’t find it."

However, Bardini hasn’t left her radio roots behind.

"Once you’re in radio, you’re never really out of it," she said, adding that she would like to do more interviews about acupuncture in the future.
