RELEASE For More Information Contact: Rebecca Wilkowski, Phone: (800) 729-0941 Discovery Channel Interviews PCOM Graduate Ken Andes, a graduate of the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, will appear on an episode of Discovery Channel’s "Second Opinion with Dr. Mehmet Oz" in late July. According to Andes, the medical talk show specifically wanted a Pacific College student or graduate as a guest on a show about joint diseases. Andes was asked to speak for approximately five minutes on acupuncture and how it can be used to treat back pain. "I inserted several needles into Dr. Oz’s ear and one into his hand," Andes said. "It was a pretty fun experience." Other guests on the show included two orthopedists and Olympic downhill ski racer Pekaboo Street, who suffered devastating injuries that she overcame to win the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan. Oz, the show’s host, is regarded by many as one of the top cardiologists in the world. Andes graduated from Pacific College in September 2002 and has been running a private acupuncture practice in Suffern, New York since March of this year. Andes plans to open a second clinic in Metuchen, New Jersey in the coming months. Andes feels his prior experience as an actor and singer allowed him to feel comfortable as he educated the live audience of approximately 80 people about the benefits of acupuncture and the many diseases it can treat. "I’m used to being in front of an audience," Andes said. Andes said that the chance to bring acupuncture into the mainstream made the experience truly exciting. "Most people come to see me [for acupuncture] as a last resort, and I can help them, but I would rather they came to me at the beginning," Andes said. "I would like to see people think of acupuncture as part of the mainstream rather than an alternative." For more information, please call (800) 729-0941. ###
