NEWS RELEASE January 3, 2003 For More Information Contact: Rebecca Wilkowski, Phone:(800) 729-0941 Pacific College Named One of the Top Colleges of Oriental Medicine in the U.S. San Diego, CA- –Pacific College of Oriental Medicine has been selected as one of the “Best of the West” colleges of traditional Chinese medicine in the U.S. by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) World newspaper. The college is one of four winners to take honors in the clinical training category. The newspaper’s survey was designed to identify institutions that preserve and protect the essence, philosophy and culture of traditional Chinese medicine in the West. The study, which looked at a school’s faculty, curriculum, and clinical training, was open to the 70 plus colleges of Oriental and traditional Chinese medicine in the United States. Clinical training winners were selected for their outstanding, knowledgeable clinical directors and their ability to offer excellent learning opportunities in supervised clinical settings. “We are very pleased to be selected a winner in the clinical training category,” said Jack Miller, President of Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. “Our college is dedicated to providing students with a solid foundation of classical traditional Chinese medicine, and to giving future practitioners the confidence and training they need to bring the benefits of authentic TCM to their patients.” According to a 1998 survey in the Journal of the American Medical Association, approximately 42 percent of all Americans are using complementary therapies, spending more than $27 billion annually. The fastest growing of these treatment options is traditional Chinese medicine, a comprehensive holistic system that has been practiced continuously for more than 5,000 years. Pacific College of Oriental Medicine was founded in 1986 and is one of the largest and most prominent colleges of traditional Oriental medicine in the nation. Pacific College interns work at multiple hospitals and clinics in the San Diego and New York area. The college was one of the few recipients of the National Institutes of Health Office of Alternative Medicine’s original research grants and the first college of TCM in the California to be approved to award a Doctoral program in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Pacific College has campuses in San Diego, New York and Chicago, and is the only college of it’s kind in San Diego County. ###
