Expansion of Pacific College to Include New Library

San Diego, CA- –Pacific College of Oriental Medicine recently expanded its San Diego campus to include an additional 2,700 square foot suite that houses the college's new library and faculty offices. The expanded library was developed to support and enrich the college's current Masters and proposed Doctoral program in Oriental medicine.

The expansion nearly triples the space allocated for the college's library, allowing for additional computers, study areas and work stations for students and faculty. The library provides students with access to free e-mail service and internet access, books, periodicals, student reference/research papers, audio and video tapes and players, computers, a laser printer, copy machine, and software CD collection. The college's library is also open to the public.

The library's collection includes over 2,500 books and journals and over 650 non-print items. The collection covers the fields of traditional Chinese medicine and herbology, biomedicine, anatomy, physiology, biology, chemistry, psychology, research design and bio-statistics. While the library's holdings are predominately in English, it also houses a special collection of Chinese language monographs donated by Ted Kaptchuk. Required textbooks and readings are also on reserve in the library.

The campus' recent expansion has allowed Pacific College to accommodate its growing student body by making additional classroom space available. The college's San Diego campus now inhabits eight suites with over 21,000 square feet of space.

Pacific College of Oriental Medicine was founded in 1986 and is one of the largest and most prominent colleges of traditional Oriental medicine in the nation. The college has received numerous prestigious honors including a National Institutes of Health Office of Alternative Medicine research grant, being named one of the best colleges of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the country by TCM World Newspaper, and working with FEMA treating search and rescue workers in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks. As part of its internship-training program, Pacific College campuses operate low-cost clinics open to the public, as well as internships at clinics and hospitals in the New York, San Diego, and Chicago areas.
