Stress has become an accepted condition of 21st century life. Interestingly enough, among the various ways that are available to deal with the problems of a modern Western lifestyle, is an ancient Eastern healing technique that was specifically designed for stress management. It is called Reiki or Reiki massage.
Reiki is a Japanese energy medicine protocol designed to trigger the body’s relaxation response and reduce and mange stress. Like the TCM concept of Qi – Reiki, which literally translates into “universal life force energy”, is a modality that allows the practitioner to manipulate the flow of vital energy, bringing it back into its proper balance. Beyond taking a balanced look at life, however, Reiki does offer some practical treatments that have been shown to reduce stress. The patient is usually lying down as he or she would be during any kind of massage therapy. The Reiki practitioner uses his or her hands at key points throughout the body to stimulate the flow of energy. These points roughly correspond to the Chakra points of Aryuvedic medicine modalities, and the meridians of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). During the technique it is believed that Qi, or vital energy, actually flows from the Reiki Master into the body of the patient, replacing and replenishing what is needed.
All patients who have undergone a Reiki massage session, report a feeling of true calm, relaxation, and inner peace. Most leave the table feeling very refreshed, energized and positive.
