Pacific College Attends Inaugural CAM Expo 2005
Pacific College of Oriental Medicine recently took part in the enormously successful inaugural International Complementary & Alternative Healthcare Conference & Expo (CAM Expo) held at the Grand Hyatt in New York City .

The expo, which took place February 12-13, 2005, brought together under one roof all different factions that make up the complementary and alternative medicine field. Over 1000 practitioners were in attendance, representing 34 states and 14 countries. According to Megan Forrester, managing director of CAM Expo, the goal was to "give this rapidly changing market a context and direction [by providing] credible, safe, ethical and valuable information."

Pacific College of Oriental Medicine was one of 100 exhibitors and offered information about the school and the Oriental medical field to expo attendees. The exhibit included acupuncture models, PCOM's newspaper, Oriental Medicine , sample herbs and literature such as Acupuncture Efficacy . NADA protocol treatments were offered, exposing many doctors and healthcare professionals to acupuncture for the first time.

The CAM Expo was an opportunity for PCOM to both educate and learn. By speaking with various attendees, PCOM representatives heard professionals' experiences in private practice, hospitals and with employment after graduation. This was valuable information to bring home, enabling PCOM to understand how best to serve its students. The expo was also an opportunity for students to network and meet other members of the field.

Keynote speakers at the expo included Drs. Dean Ornish, Frank Lipman, James Gordon and Woody Merrell. Robert A.F. Thurman delivered an evening keynote on Tibetan medicine, Buddha meditation and the Integrative medicine renaissance. CAM Expo also included many workshops and activities such as morning Yoga and medical Qigong as well as an opening night gala.
