Bachelor of Science Completion Program Designed to Meet Growing Demand for Highly Educated Nurses

NEW YORK (November 30, 2011) – Registered nurses can advance their careers and earn a degree that prepares them for the future of healthcare through the new Bachelor of Science Completion Program in Holistic Nursing at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM) in New York. A leader in developing highly skilled and licensed practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage and Asian bodywork, PCOM has developed the first nursing bachelor degree program of its kind within a Complementary/Alternative Medicine (CAM) school.

The Profession of Oriental Medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is one of the oldest continuous systems of medicine in history, with recorded instances dating as far back as two thousand years. This is in sharp contrast to the American or Western forms of health care, which have been in existence for some 150 years.

Traditional Oriental medicine is a major healthcare system for over one quarter of the world's population. However, the origin and development of the profession of Oriental medicine in the United States has occurred only in the last few decades. In its early stages, the profession established the certification, accreditation, and licensure structures to move the profession forward.

Pacific College of Oriental Medicine - History

Pacific College of Oriental Medicine was founded in 1986 to provide Oriental medical and body therapy education to students from around the world.
