Pacific College Alumni Profiles

Pacific College of Oriental Medicine has many reasons to be proud of its alumni. Over the past twelve years, our graduates have averaged the highest pass rates on the California Acupuncture Licensing Exam. Practitioners who have trained at Pacific College are respected for their extensive knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and for their caring and dedication to their patients. Ken Rosen, a 2000 graduate of Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, has been studying medicine since he was diagnosed with cancer 20 years ago. Kenneth Hoffman is the director of Arcadia Health Center. His practice is a mix of modern science and the traditional wisdom of energetic/natural medicine, and houses a large herbal pharmacy. Michael Akong, B.A., M.A.
San Diego
Michael Akong received his Bachelor¹s degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology at the University of California at San Diego. He later completed his Masters in Public Health from San Diego State University. He continues to assist many clinics that serve the poor in San Diego and Mexico. He also has over 25 scientific publications and five U.S. patents in biomedical research over the past 23 years (including over 18 years with Merck). A graduate of Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, Michael has investigated many applications of Oriental medicine and has worked with some of the best physicians in the world, including Professor Ming Qing Zhu and Toshikatsu Yamamoto M.D., Ph.D. Michael has three clinics for the treatment of spinal cord injury, stroke/brain injury, and general/internal medicine. For over one year, he has had medical staff privileges at UCSD for continued research using acupuncture. He is also the first practicing physician in Oriental medicine for Paradise Valley Hospital in San Diego, and the first in their 22 hospital system.

Michael Wayne, L.Ac., Ph.D. graduated from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine's San Diego campus in 1998. He is now a licensed acupuncturist and board certified Chinese herbalist, with over 25 years experience in the field of Chinese medicine.  He has a Ph.D. in the field of Quantum-Integral Medicine, which is about the science of emerging properties and how it relates to the innate healing system and human potential.

Oren Markowitz,

Oren Markowitz graduated in 2003 from Pacific College in San Diego with a Masters in Traditional Oriental Medicine.  His focus is physical medicine, pain management, and internal medicine as well as facial rejuvenation.   His work includes herbs as well as acupuncture.  Oren has worked at spas in both California and New York, and on cruise ships through Acupuncture at Sea.
