Pacific College Alumni Profile - Ryan Altman
Ryan Altman, a 2005 graduate from San Diego, was a highly active
member of the student council during his years at Pacific College. He created the used book sale,
founded and edited The Point newsletter, instigated the healthy vending machine in the student
lounge, and created the Veterinary Acupuncture Club.
Ryan currently lives and works in San Diego, where he practices mostly Japanese Classical acupuncture.
He owns and operates two other businesses, Healthy Vending Options and Alternative Healing Network,
Inc., which is a nonprofit designed to promote integrative healing and healthy living to the
public.
Ryan also produces the San Diego Healing Arts Festival, an event in Balboa Park that hosts live music,
free massage and acupuncture consultations provided by PCOM, free yoga classes from Ginseng Yoga, free
Qi Gong classes from the Taoist Sanctuary, presentations on capoeira, tai chi, world beat dance and a
vendor fair.
Ryan's hobbies include live music, politics, film, theater and world travel. He studied yoga in India,
Reiki in Israel and massage in Thailand. His interest in Oriental medicine was sparked after being saved
from altitude sickness by a traditional herbal decoction in Tibet.
"Upon returning to the United States, I knew I wanted to continue my studies in integrative/alternative
healing arts," said Ryan. "PCOM was one of the only courses that would give an actual master's degree
for the work."
