Chief complaint in the case:
Recurrent episodes of shortness of breath. The patient has a history of asthma associated with a nonproductive cough that was previously controlled with an inhaler. However, over the past year recurring episodes of shortness of breath have increased in both severity and duration and are no longer reliably controlled by her current medication. Some recent episodes have been accompanied by “dizziness” and light-headedness. Increasingly these episodes are leaving the patient unable to participate in normal and productive activities.
