This full-text article database includes over 150 alternative medicine and complementary health magazines, journals and proceedings. Among the publications available are several Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine journals. It focuses on complementary, holistic, integrated approaches to health care and wellness.

From the U.S. National Library of Medicine - this one-stop site contains many links to information published by government agencies about different health conditions and links to organizations, directories, dictionaries, and clearinghouses.

MEDLINE with FULL TEXT
MEDLINE with Full Text is the world's most comprehensive source of full text for medical journals, providing full text for more than 1,370 journals indexed in MEDLINE. Of those, more than 1,340 have cover-to-cover indexing in MEDLINE, and of those, 528 are not found with full text in any version of Academic Search, Health Source or Biomedical Reference Collection.

PubMed
This site was designed to provide access to the current MEDLINE and then link to full-text articles where available from citations retrieved. A nice feature of PubMed is the ability to link to "related articles" when you find an article on your topic.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Get up-to-date public health information on communicable diseases (e.g. hepatitis, AIDS, tuberculosis, etc.). Invaluable information can be obtained from the Traveler's Health section including travel advisories for specific geographic regions, disease outbreaks, risks and prevention strategies, plus immunization recommendations. Full-text access to Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), reports on communicable disease.

Clinical Trials
The U.S. National Institutes of Health, through its National Library of Medicine, has developed ClinicalTrials.gov to provide patients, family members and members of the public current information about clinical research studies. Before searching, you may want to learn more about clinical trials and more about this Web site.

The online consumer health information web site produced by the U. S. Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. The site offers user-friendly access to its original material (core information such as fact sheets and frequently-asked-questions on top health concerns), and hyperlinks to Federal, state, local, university and nonprofit consumer health resources, online documents, discussion groups, electronic mail lists, and federal databases.

National Health Information Center
Provides the Health Information Resource Database listing over 1000 organizations and government offices that provide health information upon request. This site contains synopses of the annual Partnership for Networked Consumer Health Information conference.

NIH Senior Health
This website for older adults was developed by the National Institute on Aging and the National Library of Medicine, both part of the National Institutes of Health.

NLM Gateway
The NLM Gateway allows users to search in multiple retrieval systems at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). The current Gateway searches MEDLINE/PubMed, OLDMEDLINE, LOCATORplus, MedlinePlus, DIRLINE, AIDS Meetings, Health Services Research Meetings, Space Life Sciences Meetings, and HSRProj.

Natural Disasters- NOAH New York Online Access to Health
Provides access to Basic Information about natural disasters, health and safety issues and Specific types of disasters including earthquakes, floods, storms, hurricanes, wildfires, landslides, etc.

ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health Source
This database offers reliable, comprehensive coverage of the fields of nursing and allied health including journals, video, dissertations, reference books and more. It is accessible at the PCOM campuses and libraries. To get access outside of PCOM campuses, use the PCOM Secure Site or Campus Cruiser.

ProQuest Training Tutorials

PubMed Central
PubMed Central (PMC) is the U.S. National Library of Medicine's digital archive of life sciences journal literature. Access to PMC is free and unrestricted.

TOXNET
Specialized Information Services, NLM, TOXNET, a cluster of databases on toxicology, hazardous chemicals, and related areas.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration
Safety information for drugs (for human and animals), cosmetics, food products, and medical and radiological devices. Free full-text of FDA Consumer magazine articles is available on the site (from 1995) and under the Health Professionals section you can access the Bad Bug Book (offering basic facts on food borne pathogenic organisms and natural toxins). The FDA Web Site Index is easy to use. Check under "Web sites" for links to non-government sites.

Select NCI's bibliographic literature database (CancerLIT) or cancer education publications.

CancerNet
The U.S. National Cancer Institute's web site includes a wide range of accurate, credible cancer information such as peer-reviewed statements on many different types of cancers for patients and detailed treatment statements for health care professionals, covering state-of-the-art care. It contains cancer fact sheets and other publications. All information is updated regularly, reviewed by oncology experts, and is based on current research.

CANHELP, Inc.
CANHELP, Inc. is a fee-based service that provides extensive, current, individualized information packets to cancer patients. Look at the Cancer Patient's Bill of Rights by the director of CANHELP, medical writer Patrick M. McGrady, Jr.

Cansearch Online Guide to Cancer Resources
From the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship; a guided tour designed to assist the unexperienced in finding sources on the Net to get to cancer resources quickly so they can find answers to their questions and become more informed patients and caretakers.

OncoLink
The University of Pennsylvania's Cancer Resource web page. It contains an excellent collection of pages including information on specific types of cancers, cancer treatments, social and psychological support and coping suggestions, and recent research advances. It is updated every day and contains information at many levels from basic to in-depth.

PDQ Physicians Data Query
NCI's comprehensive cancer database provides a wealth of information through an easy-to-use menu-driven system -- from basic lay level explanations on diagnoses and treatments to state-of-the-art therapeutic approaches to a registry of clinical trials (usually treatment studies) for specific diagnoses. It contains peer-reviewed summaries on cancer treatment, screening, prevention, genetics, and supportive care, and complementary and alternative medicine; a registry of approximately 2,000 open and 13,000 closed cancer clinical trials from around the world; and directories of physicians, professionals and organizations that provide cancer care

Drug Information Databases

Customary Medicinal Knowledgebase
This database seeks to collect Public Domain information on customary medicinal plant knowledge possessed by the Australian Aboriginal people.

DailyMed - Current Medical Information.
It is provided by the National Library of Medicine as a public service and does not accept advertisement. It is a comprehensive source, but you can't search across the entire collection.

Dietary Supplements Database
The Dietary Supplements Labels Database, free from the National Library of Medicine, includes information about ingredients in more than two thousand selected brands of dietary supplements. It enables users to determine what ingredients are in specific brands and to compare ingredients in different brands. Information is also provided on the health benefits claimed by manufacturers.

Drugs.com
An up-to-date source of drug information on more than 24,000 prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines and natural products. Free on the Internet, a commercial site.

Drug Digest
Information on the use of herbs, drugs, and vitamins, and their interactions. Also includes overviews on a variety of health conditions. Available free on the Web from Express Scripts, Inc., the nation's largest independent pharmacy benefit manager.

A service of the National Library of Medicine/ NI H National Institutes of Health.

PDR Health, Physicians’ Desk Reference
This is an A to Z arrangement of drugs from the 2011 PDR. Search by drug name, health condition or disease. The most Popular searches and conditions are listed in side box on right.

ACU Trials
Database created by Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. It contains randomized trials and systematic reviews of acupuncture. Data is obtained primarily from PubMed, Cochrane Library and OCOM library resources. The PCOM Library access is ID pcomlib, PW student.

Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD)
National Institute for Health Research Service NHS, Canada. This site includes access to information from Canadian government databases: DARE, NHS EED and HTA.

ClinicalTrials.gov
Information on current clinical research studies: purpose, location and participants of trials.

Cochrane Library
Independent, high-quality, evidence for health care decision making. Access from the PCOM campus and library. Do Not Need to Login, just search and retrieve abstracts and full text. How to use? Go to Learn Tab or Tutorial section.

E-Medicine
Medical information written by physicians for patients and consumers on important health topics. Start by clicking on a letter in our topics A-Z, visit a Health Resource Center, or use our search function

Google Scholar
Search for scholarly literature using Google's familiar search engine. Not as precise as using a database like Ebsco or Gale, but can be a good starting point to help narrow down your search. Google Scholar's focus is mostly on the humanities. 

Health Central
This is a comprehensive consumer health site with information on topics from A-Z, discussion centers, and the online advice of Dr. Dean Edell. Other features include personalized health profiles and advice about finding and using health information from an online librarian, Rochelle Perrine Schmalz, the founding medical librarian of the first Planetree Health Resource Center, (opened in 1981).

Health World
A colorful and healthful world is mapped out on this site offering both alternative and conventional medical information - including text on self-care approaches to common problems, excerpts from the classic Nutritional Influences on Illness, audio readings from the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and links to the Merck Manual and Medline. The advisory board and authors are leaders in the fields of consumer health and complementary medicine. This site provides a fee-based Internet search service ($50/hr) that reviews web sites and includes a Medline search.

Medscape
This site contains feature articles for health care professionals, patients, and families; and links to related clinical information. Access is free, but a one-time registration is required. They offer free Medline access and some access to full text journals. Updated weekly; email notification of updates is also available.

National Library of Medicine Drug Information Portal
Provides the public, healthcare professionals and researchers with a gateway to current, accurate, and understandable drug information from the National Library of Medicine and other key government agencies. The Drug Information Portal offers a varied selection of resources and focused topics in medicine and drug-related information, with links to individual resources with drug information and summaries tailored to various audiences. General drug categories from MeSH are also included in the Drug Portal records.

National Institutes of Health (NIH)
One of the world's foremost medical research centers. An agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the NIH is the federal focal point for health research. The NIH website offers health information for the public as well as medical professionals.

Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro)
PEDro is a free database of over 17,000 randomized trials, systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines in physiotherapy. George Institute of Global Health, affiliated with University of Sydney, Australia.

Qigong and Energy Medicine Database
The Qigong and Energy Medicine Database™ is a collection of over 5000 abstracts collected by Dr. Sancier and the Qigong Institute over the past twenty years. It includes a database of Qigong dissertations.

Third Age
A site for older adults (the third age follows youth and the middle age) offering an online community for exploration of health and lifestyle issues through web site resources, community forums, chat rooms, personal stories and their own archives. Contains a marketplace of retail items (from books and cards to the gourmet items) and services (travel services, classifieds, real estate). 

WebMD
Health A to Z Guide covers common health conditions. The site provides valuable health information, tools for managing your health, and support to those who seek information.

Office of Minority Health, Minority HIV/AIDS Initiative
The Office of Minority Health (OMH) was created in 1986 and is one of the most significant outcomes of the 1985 Secretary's Task Force Report on Black and Minority Health.
