Hong Wei Liu received his Medical Degree from the Hebei Medical University in 1983, and earned his Ph.D. degree from the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1991. He majored in internal medicine and specialized in Nephrology. From 1993 to 2000, he was an associate professor, professor, and chief physician, as well as mentor professor for postgraduate students at the Postgraduate School and Xi Yuan Hospital of China Academy of TCM. During this period, he was actively involved in clinic research, teaching, and treating patients. A top Nephrology specialist, he serves as deputy chair of the Nephropathy Division of the Beijing Association of integrating Western and Chinese Medicine. He is a committee member of the Nephropathy Division of China National Board of Integrating Western and Chinese Medicine as well as a committee member of the Nephropathy Division of China National Board of TCM.
He was a principal investigator for the Ig-A Nephropathy Chinese Medicine Treatment Grant from the National Natural Scientific Foundation and other research grants. Dr. Liu has published 20 books and more than 150 research articles focusing on Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture treatment of conditions such as Nephrology, Diabetes and Lupus, and Autoimmune disorders. Since 2000, he has been teaching most of Herbology, Herbal Formulars, Oriental Medicine Serious, CHIM Serious and Shang Han Lun at IICM(NY), NYHP(Syosset), Mercy College(NY), Touro College (NY) and PCOM(NY).
