C. Leslie Smith, MS, MA, MD


Information:
Dr. Smith’s first job was as a coach and teacher. She has loved the process of education, both as a learner and an instructor, ever since and is particularly adept at making connections and creating explications for her students that give them unique “ah ha!” moment with each discussion. Dr. Smith has over 20 years experience in adult education, including a Master’s in Medical Education and Leadership specializing in curriculum design and performance assessment, and a Fellowship in Surgical Education. She is well published in this field. Dr. Smith’s allopathic education includes a Master’s in Physiology and Biophysics, focusing on hormonal influences on angiogenic factors. She then trained to be a physician at University of Illinois, Chicago, College of Medicine. After completing 4 years of training in general surgery, she switched to Asian modalities and attended Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine to learn Chinese medicine including acupuncture, theory, and medicinal herbs, and completed Harvard Medical School’s Structural Acupuncture Course for physicians to learn Japanese-style acupuncture. Dr. Smith currently teaches learners at all levels of adult education, from pre-bachelor’s students and nurses at the Grifols Academy of Plasmapheresis, to medical students at University of Illinois and acupuncture students at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago, to physicians preparing to take their board exams through Osler’s board review. She maintains a private practice in Chicago.
