San Diego - Junior Systems Administrator (Download Description)

Pacific College of Oriental Medicine is an educational leader in Oriental medical and Asian bodywork therapy. We are looking to add a Junior Systems Administrator to our IT team.

The Junior Systems Administrator will be responsible for day-to-day operations, desktop support, and the support of all company systems (cloud based and on premise). This includes but is not limited to end user support, LAN infrastructure support, Student Information Systems, Server operating systems, and networking. This position will report to the IT Director, and will work closely with new project planning and implementations, while supporting the existing IT infrastructure. This position may also require occasional availability on nights and weekends, so applicant must be flexible during projects/implementations, etc.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Managing desktop support issues
  • Deployment and maintenance of Server 2012 R2, Active Directory, DNS, etc.
  • Design, maintenance, and support of Active Directory
  • General Windows Server administration
  • Supports all educational and institutional systems, including our Student Information System
  • Actively monitor the health of core systems, i.e. servers, 3rd party applications, email, and networking equipment (Meraki)
  • Support existing VoIP infrastructure
  • Support an environment that consists mostly of Mac computers
  • Support a Microsoft Office 365 environment
  • Participate in weekly IT department meetings
  • Function collaboratively as part of a fast-paced, customer-oriented team
Basic Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years verifiable experience working as systems/ network administrator, or relevant IT experience with equivalent responsibilities
  • Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science, or related field preferred
  • Must have a basic proficiency with networking, and understand concepts such as VPN, DHCP, DNS, IPv4, IP Subnets, along with routing, switching, and firewalls
  • Proficiency with Windows operating systems (Windows 7/8, Server 2008/2012)
  • Experience with Active Directory
  • Experience with Mac computers
  • Must possess an outgoing and friendly personality and be customer service-oriented
  • Must be able to effectively communicate, both written and orally
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills, able to troubleshoot problems
  • Experience working with Microsoft 365 a big plus
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) a big plus
