Current Openings

SAN DIEGO: Seeking individuals with leadership skills for open department chair positions.

Applications are invited for the departments listed below from the current chairs of these departments and from new applicants. The two-year term for the current department chairs will commence from the Spring 2017 semester. The number of two year terms served is unlimited and each term requires a new application.

  • Acupuncture Department Chair
  • Bioscience Department Chair
  • Herbology Department Chair
  • Oriental Medicine Department Chair
  • Clinical Practice Department Chair (see Job Description Addendum)

Successful candidates will have demonstrated the ability to mentor faculty and inspire students. 

The qualified candidate in must have a proven track record of teaching success, educational quality, and possess a minimum of four years of related work experience. A masters’ degree in a related field of study is required.

Minimum/Required Qualifications:

  • Education as indicated above and four years related work experience
  • Ability to mentor, advisement, recruit, orientate and train faculty
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with academic program dean and administration
  • Knowledge and experience in student learning outcome (SLO) design, development, implementation and assessment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience as a department or committee chair
  • Demonstrated success writing and editing
  • Demonstrated success representing an organization at college, academic, and/or public functions
  • Outstanding ambassador and leadership capabilities

Professional Conduct:

  • Represents the college positively at all times, both during and after work hours
  • Maintains awareness of “Team” in working with students, faculty, patients, and colleagues
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and attractive work area and appearance
  • During the term as department chair at PCOM the chair does not serve or occupy a similar administrative position at another institution

Evaluated by the Academic Dean according to the following professional criteria:

  • Effective communication with faculty, staff and students

  • Ability to troubleshoot and create solutions

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential functions of the job in a typical office/workstation situation. Able to work sitting or standing at desk and operate a computer using keyboard and reading information on a monitor. Reasonable accommodations may be made to accommodate individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
